Payman Dehghanian, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, received several recent honors for leadership and scholarly activities.
Dehghanian received a research grant scholarship from the American Public Power Association (APPA) under the Demonstration of Energy and Efficiency Development (DEED) Program. Additionally, he was awarded the Roland and Margaret Prove Southerland Aggie Leader Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year and was selected as the IEEE Industry Application Society (IAS) Electric Safety Workshop (ESW) 2017 student program chair.
For the APPA scholarship, Dehghanian will work with Bryan Texas Utilities on the project “Flexible Implementation of Power System Topology Control in Face of Extreme Weather Conditions.”
The Roland and Margaret Prove Southerland Aggie Leader Scholarship award recognizes a student’s participation and leadership in campus and community organizations at Texas A&M.
In his role as IAS ESW student program chair, Dehghanian will perform required tasks concerning the student program for the 2017 Electrical Safety Workshop in Reno, Nevada, next January.
Dehghanian, who is the current leader of the Texas A&M student branch joint chapter of the IEEE PELS-PES-IAS, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Tehran in 2009 and his master's degree from Sharif University of Technology in 2011, both in electrical engineering. His research interests include power system protection and control, power system reliability, asset management, maintenance scheduling, renewable integration and smart-grid applications.
