Jeffrey Zhao and Sahil Dhanju, engineering students at Texas A&M University, were part of a team that took home a national coding prize from the “Dream it. Code it. Win it.” competition.
Zhao, a sophomore mechanical engineering student and University Innovation Fellow and Sahil Dhanju, a computer science student, participated with teammates Cyrun Roshan and Hima Tammineedi from the University of Texas at Dallas and Carnegie Mellon University, respectively.
The team took home the Fiverr® $5,000 Award for Biomimetics for its product, “Recall.” It was one of eight collegiate teams to receive an award at the third annual competition ceremony on May 5 in New York.
The team’s product was created to help early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s patients recall facts and important information needed for day to day life. The wearable device stays on the forearm of the person and features a status LED, a button to start voice input and a microphone. In addition to the wearable, there is a mobile app a caretaker can use to fill in important information.
“Dream it. Code it. Win it.” is a student coding competition and celebration that is organized to reward creativity in computer science and encourage students to pursue computer science education. The student submissions are judged based on the quality of the problem being tackled as well as the solution.
Cristina Dolan, MIT Club of New York, MIT Enterprise Forum of New York and TradingScreen organized the event.
