Dr. Raymundo Arróyave, associate professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been appointed to the board of directors of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS). He begins his new role in the spring.
“TMS promotes the global science and engineering professions related to minerals, metals, and materials that impacts the society as a whole,” said Arróyave. “I am deeply honored by being elected by the membership to serve TMS in this capacity”.
Currently, Arróyave serves as associate editor of the Journal of Materials Science Letters and the Journal of Phase Equilibria and Diffusion (JPED). He also is the vice-chair of ASM International’s Alloy Phase Diagram Committee, which oversees the editorial direction of JPED, among other activities related to the dissemination of knowledge on the thermodynamics and kinetics of materials. He is also vice-chair of the Functional Materials Division of TMS and will assume the position of chair in the spring.
Arróyave received the 2014 Distinguished Service Award from the Electronic, Magnetic and Photonic Materials Division (EMPMD) of TMS.
Arróyave directs the Computational Materials Science Lab, which uses computational materials science tools to investigate material properties at different scales of length and time. The research team uses a variety of tools — ab initio calculations, molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo, phase-field models and CALPHAD — to investigate the fundamental properties of complex materials.
TMS is a professional organization of 12,000 scientists and engineers that encompasses the entire range of materials and engineering, from minerals processing and primary metals production to basic research and the advanced applications of materials.
