Dr. Robert Stevens, 2015 president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), visited Texas A&M University on Sept. 8. Stevens met with Dr. Robin Autenrieth, department head, and other faculty members to discuss the success of the academic program in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering.
Stevens was the guest of honor at the ASCE chapter meeting where he presented “A Winning Career with ASCE.” The presentation helped members learn more about ASCE and how to be involved even after graduation. Stevens spoke about his own educational background, personal career and a few major projects he worked on through the course of his career both at home and abroad. He emphasized the importance of the civil engineering profession in enhancing the lives of the public and helping people every day.
The student chapter of ASCE has six meetings planned this semester, each with a different guest speaker. Stevens was invited to be the first guest to kick off the semester, and a crowd of over 150 engineering students attended the presentation.
