The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), a national organization with a student chapter in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University, was recently awarded the INFORMS 2016 Student Chapter Annual Award at the cum laude level.

We are very proud to receive our 10th consecutive award from INFORMS,” said Julie Hammett, current chapter member and chapter president-elect. “Receiving feedback from our members has been a strength for improving and we are really looking forward to reaching even higher goals in the years to come.”
The purpose of this award is to recognize the achievements of top student chapters across the nation. Officers from the Texas A&M chapter were recognized at the INFORMS annual meeting in Nashville earlier this month.
Led by Zimo Wang and faculty adviser, Dr. Alaa Elwany, the INFORMS student chapter at Texas A&M has been consistently recognized as one of the most active student chapters in the United States.
“This award highlights the outstanding service and accomplishments of our student officers and would definitely encourage us to improve the student chapter to an even higher level,” said Wang, current chapter president.
Since its creation in 2004, the student chapter has worked diligently to provide a community for graduate and undergraduate students interested in operations research, management science and data analytics. The officers promote and facilitate discussions about new and current topics in related research fields and create educational and career development opportunities for members.
“This recognition serves as a clear message that our graduate students stand out as top talents and leaders among top peer institutions in the U.S. and worldwide,” Elwany said. “Additionally, it provides them with unique opportunities to further expand their professional networks which greatly facilitates their future involvement with more activities and leadership roles in leading academic and industrial institutions.”
