Students in the Department of Ocean Engineering at Texas A&M University were rewarded for their hard work inside and outside the classroom with awards given during the annual meeting jointly hosted by the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME).
The Outstanding Ocean Engineering Student Award was sponsored by MTS and awarded to Carson Pepper and Jiacheng ‘Kirk’ Sheng.
The Academic Excellence Award for students with the highest GPA was sponsored by SNAME and given to Kevin Ariyanonthaka and Ryan McDonald, who tied for the top academic spot in the department.
Service awards were given to Jacob Taylor, Holly Berckenhoff and Jacob Schnos, recognizing their outstanding service to the department and promoting the field of ocean engineering.
At the meeting, students also presented projects they worked on during their two-semester Senior Capstone Design course.
MTS and SNAME also donated $9,500 and $2,500, respectively, to the human-powered submarine project in which students design, build and race human-powered submarines for the International Submarine Races.
