Dr. Daniel A. Jiménez, professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been inducted into the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Association for Computing Machinery International Symposium on Microarchitecture (MICRO) Hall of Fame for his contribution of eight high-impact research papers. The induction took place at the awards ceremony of the MICRO conference in Boston, Massachusetts Oct. 17.
This prestigious distinction was given to only six members of the MICRO community this year. MICRO is the premier symposium for researchers to present, discuss and debate innovative microarchitecture ideas and techniques for advanced computing and communication systems.
“I’m honored to be included among the other members of the hall of fame, and very grateful to my MICRO co-authors, especially my former students, for helping to make this possible,” Jiménez said.
Jiménez’s research focuses are computer architecture and compilers. He was also inducted into the High Performance Computer Architecture Hall of Fame in 2015 and is notable for inventing the perceptron branch predictor, published with co-author Dr. Calvin Lin, professor at The University of Texas at Austin, as well as other impactful research. Branch predictors designed by Jiménez or inspired by his research are currently deployed in a wide variety of microprocessors from several companies.
