Two engineering faculty members were among 10 from Texas A&M University named to Clarivate Analytics’ Highly Cited Researchers list for 2018. Dr. Philip Hemmer and Dr. J.N. Reddy were on the annual list, which identifies influential researchers from around the world who are recognized by their peers in the form of high citation counts over a decade.
“The A&M researchers who qualified for this year’s list represent the scope of the Texas A&M research enterprise, from science and engineering to business and liberal arts,” said Dr. Mark A. Barteau, vice president for research. “We are proud of their accomplishments as well as those of our many other outstanding researchers who contribute every day to advancing human knowledge and to improving society and the world around us.”
Hemmer is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests include nitrogen vacancy diamond color centers for quantum information and biological applications, solid materials for quantum optics, sub-wavelength imaging, single molecule imaging, ultra-sensitive room temperature solid-state magnetometers, ultrasound modulated optical tomography, nanofabrication of surface plasmon structures, quantum computing and storage in solid materials, chemical/biological agent detection using quantum coherence, ultraslow and stopped light in solids, materials and techniques for resonant nonlinear optics, phase-conjugate-based turbulence aberration compensation, spectral hole-burning materials and techniques, holographic optical memory materials, smart pixels devices, optical correlators, photorefractive applications, laser trapping and cooling, and atomic clocks.
Reddy is a University Distinguished Professor in the J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is known worldwide for his significant contributions to the field of applied mechanics through his pioneering works on the development of shear deformation theories and the authorship of widely used textbooks on the linear and nonlinear finite element analysis, variational methods, composite materials and structures, applied functional analysis, and continuum mechanics advances around the world. His shear deformation plate and shell theories and their finite element models and the penalty finite element models of non-Newtonian fluids have been implemented into commercial finite element computer programs like ABAQUS, NISA and HyperXtrude.
This is the fifth year Clarivate Analytics has published its list of highly cited researchers.
