Dr. Ivett A. Leyva has been appointed head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. The appointment is effective Sept. 1.
Leyva is currently a program element monitor for hypersonics and munitions S&T for the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Science, Technology and Engineering. Prior to her current role, Leyva served as program officer for high-speed aerodynamics at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
She is a fellow of the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics and AFRL. Leyva is also a national associate of the National Research Council of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine and a recipient of an Air Force Civilian Achievement Medal and two Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Medals and Awards.
Leyva earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering and applied science and master’s and doctoral degrees in aeronautics, all from the California Institute of Technology.
