Dr. Dara Childs, J. Mike Walker ’66 Department of Mechanical Engineering Professor Emeritus, former Turbo Lab Director and TPS Chairman of 34 years, has passed away. 

Dr. Dara Childs is survived by his wife, Judy Childs, and his three children from his previous marriage to the late Susan Childs: Leslie, Dara Jr., and Van.

His dedication as an educator was evident in his role as a professor and mentor to both undergraduate and graduate students at Texas A&M. In addition to numerous awards and accolades, Childs held the esteemed Leland T. Jordan Chair of Mechanical Engineering from 1992 to 2017, and he was an ASME Fellow in 1990. Throughout his time at Texas A&M, Dr. Childs worked to establish and lead the Turbo Lab, which is now a 37,000 square foot high-bay facility with state-of-the-art equipment.

Dr. Childs created a lasting legacy through his unwavering commitment to research, his students, and his colleagues. His influence will continue to resonate with engineers around the world who have been enriched by his work.
