Established in 1996, the Regents Professor Awards recognize employees within the Texas A&M University System who have made preeminent contributions to their university or agency and Texas communities.

Five faculty members from the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University have been selected for this prestigious award, which is the highest honor a faculty member can receive in the Texas A&M University System. The system includes a statewide network of 11 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, Texas A&M-Fort Worth and Texas A&M-RELLIS.

“These faculty exemplify the incredible talent in the College of Engineering,” said Dr. Robert Bishop, dean of the Texas A&M College of Engineering. "We are grateful for the contributions of these exceptional faculty and all they do to advance the work of Texas A&M throughout Texas.”

Representing five different departments, the faculty are as follows:

  • Dr. Kyle T. Alfriend, professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering. Alfriend is a National Academy of Engineering member, a University Distinguished Professor, and the Jack E. and Frances Brown Chair II.
  • Dr. Ibrahim Karaman, professor and head of the Department of Materials Science & Engineering. Karaman is also Chevron Professor I.
  • Dr. Eric Petersen, professor in the J. Mike Walker 66 Department of Mechanical Engineering. Petersen is the Nelson-Jackson Chair Professor, in addition to being the director of the Turbomachinery Laboratory.
  • Dr. Narasimha Reddy, professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Reddy is also the Truchard Foundation Chair Professor.
  • Dr. Lin Shao, professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering. Shao is the director of the nuclear engineering undergraduate program, a Robert Cochran University Professor, a Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station Senior Faculty Fellow, and affiliated faculty in the materials science & engineering department.

These five will join an esteemed group, becoming part of the 323 Texas A&M System faculty recognized with the Regents Professor Award throughout its history.
