The Online Master of Science in Ocean Engineering at Texas A&M University is based in building fundamental research skills and content knowledge to prepare engineers to enter various careers ranging from research and development to naval architecture to a doctorate and academic career.
Beginning in Fall, 2025, Ocean Engineering faculty are proud to offer distance education opportunities for graduate students and professionals who wish to pursue an online degree in ocean engineering.
Classes can be viewed real-time or viewed later from a recording accessible through the Texas A&M University’s distance education website. Ocean Engineering will be offering a Master of Science with or without thesis in a 100% online format. This program is available to all active Texas A&M students and new graduate-degree-seeking students who have been admitted to Texas A&M.
Non-Thesis Track
The Master of Science (M.S.) nonthesis in ocean engineering is a course-based graduate degree program for students and professionals with an undergraduate or equivalent international degree in any engineering field. This 30-credit program prepares graduates to be experts and leaders in an exciting, international area of engineering with rewarding careers in the offshore traditional and renewable energy sector, coastal engineering consulting, system design, government agencies and any career path that requires a sound understanding of ocean processes, engineering systems and the ingenuity to create optimal engineering solutions in this exciting, but challenging, environment.
Thesis Track
The prerequisite for the ocean engineering graduate program thesis option is that a candidate have a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. Student-specific prerequisites may also be imposed by the departmental academic advisor for students with a weaker background in the basics of ocean engineering (such as dynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanics of materials).
