The Meloy Internships program is a unique opportunity for ambitious students in the College of Engineering to gain hands-on experience working at a startup. This program is designed to help students take the next step in their careers by connecting with industry leaders who are solving real-world challenges. This program, developed under the Meloy Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program (MEIEP) enables five exceptional undergraduate engineering students to spend a summer working on a paid internship with a fast-growing early-stage startup. Are you ready to work on real-world engineering and technology challenges? The Meloy Internships program provides an unparalleled opportunity to collaborate with a fast-growing early-stage startup. You decide where to apply, and companies select who they want to interview and hire. We provide funding and guidance but leave hiring decisions to the companies.

How It Works

  • Student Applications (Internal) – Students interested in a paid summer internship with one of the five available companies and projects apply to the program.
  • Student Selection – A curated group of outstanding students is chosen to participate.
  • Student Applications (External) – These students apply directly to the projects that interest them, submitting resumes and cover letters to each of the companies.
  • Company Decisions – Companies review applications, conduct interviews, and make their own hiring decisions.
  • Meloy’s Role – We support students and employers, ensuring a great match and facilitating the process.

Selection Criteria

To ensure a successful experience for both students and companies, we carefully select students based on:

  • Academic excellence in engineering and entrepreneurial disciplines.
  • Relevant technical skills and experience.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
  • Interest in working on innovative industry projects.
  • Alignment with entrepreneurial values and a growth mindset.

Qualifications

  • Open to undergraduate non-freshman engineering students with at least one semester remaining between internship conclusion and graduation.
  • Strong academic background and practical experience preferred.
  • Passion for problem-solving, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
  • Enrolled in the College of Engineering.
  • Ability to commit to the internship period.
  • Part of the MEIEP program and involved with program events, classes, etc.

Application Process

March 3 to 21 – Student applications and project matching

March 21 to 25 – Students selected for the program

March 26 to April 4 – Targeted interviews & offer extensions with pre-matched students

June 2 to August 8 – Summer internship period

FAQ

Is this a paid internship?

Yes, students will receive gross compensation in the amount of $10,000 for the summer. Any student relocating more than 50 miles from their home address or the main university campus will also receive a relocation bonus of $3,000.

How do I apply to the internships?

After the selection period, qualifying students will be given access to the internship listings and can apply directly to companies.

Do I get to choose where I intern?

Yes! You review the projects and apply to those that align with your interests.

Do companies make the final hiring decision?

Absolutely. The companies conduct interviews and decide whom to hire.

What role does Meloy play?

We facilitate the process by selecting top students, connecting them with selected companies, and facilitating the initiative.

How long is the internship?

The internship is 10 weeks long, running from June 2 through August 8, 2025.

Can international students apply?

Yes, as long as they meet the qualifications and have the appropriate work authorization.

How competitive is the selection process?

Highly competitive. Only five students will be chosen for each program cycle.
